National Digital Portal for Dr. Ambedkar Chairs

The National Digital Portal for Dr. Ambedkar Chairs was conceived as a unified platform to document, integrate, monitor, and showcase academic, research, and outreach activities across the country under the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.

The portal serves as a national digital repository and monitoring interface for all Dr. Ambedkar Chairs.

About The Chairs

In 1992, the Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centenary Celebrations Committee recommended the establishment of subject-wise "Dr. Ambedkar Chairs" across leading Universities and Institutions. These Chairs are a tribute to one of India's greatest visionaries, dedicated to studying and disseminating his ideas and philosophy in their present-day relevance.

On 22nd April 2022, the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation signed MoUs with 24 Universities/Institutions at BHU Varanasi to formally establish these Chairs, transforming them into advanced centres of learning, research, and policy engagement. With the addition of 4 more Chairs, the total number has now increased to 28.

Objectives of the Scheme

Provide advanced Centres of learning where scholars and students explore Ambedkar's philosophy through contemporary approaches.
Promote research in Multi-disciplinary and Inter-disciplinary fields to realize Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair.
Conduct studies on the socio-economic and cultural life of marginalized communities including farmers, unprivileged and deprived communities.
Publish high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals and books.
Translate Ambedkar's vision of justice and empowerment into actionable policies through various multidimensional approaches.

Academic Functions of the Chairs

The Chairs act as centres of excellence for research, teaching, and outreach on Ambedkar's works and issues concerning weaker sections of society.

Research & Teaching

Conduct research, supervise doctoral students, and participate in university teaching.

Academic Events

Host seminars, workshops, symposia, and at least one national-level programme annually.

Publications

Publish at least two papers and one edited book per year on seminar proceedings.

Capacity Building

Conduct awareness programmes and initiate field research on marginalized communities.
